RÉALISATION
In Situ Environmental Remediation
Client:
Petrochemical industry
Objective:
Remediation of the site for soil and groundwater to respect applicable criteria limits
Scope of work:
Site characterization and in situ rehabilitation of a petroleum tank farm after an accidental oil spill. Characterization work included the completion of sixty boreholes of which the majority was converted into observation wells. The characterization has shown the presence of contaminants in the vadose zone and the saturated zone. Significant thicknesses of free phase hydrocarbons were observed in several wells installed on site and outside the property lines. The detailed analysis of field and laboratory data allowed us to set up a complex in situ treatment system using both the multiphase extraction (recovery of free-phase) and heat treatment (steam injection ‘Hot water).
The majority of wells installed during characterization work were used in the in situ remediation of the site. The surface soils contaminated with light petroleum distillates were treated on site by biopiles. Treatment goals were achieved within budgets and deadlines.
